PSPSafe is a four year DAFM funded project. It is a multidisciplinary collaboration with The Marine Institute, Atlantic Technological University, Galway, and University College Dublin.
Marine Institute
The Marine Institute has the responsible role as Lead Organisation and Principal Investigator and is involved in all tasks:
- Task 1 - the coordination, operation, knowledge transfer and dissemination outputs of the project
- Task 2 - sampling design, coordination and implementation; sample extraction and analysis of Paralytic Shellfish Toxins in Shellfish, morphological and taxonomic identification of Alexandrium species biodiversity
- Task 3 - Molecular characterization of Alexandrium spp in Irish waters and development of novel diagnostic HAB surveillance tools
- Task 4 - Modelling of PST events and risk assessment of PSP from consumption of shellfish"
Personnel involved include Dave Clarke and Amanda Curtin.
Atlantic Technological University
The Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is the partner institution responsible for the delivery of Task 3 (Molecular characterization of Alexandrium spp in Irish waters and development of novel diagnostic HAB surveillance tools). Personnel involved are Dr. Luca Mirimin, Dr. Fiona Kavanagh, and Ms. Francesca Cucchi (PhD candidate).
University College Dublin
The University College Dublin (UCD) is the partner institution responsible for the delivery of Task 4 (Modelling of PST events and risk assessment of PSP from consumption of shellfish). Personnel involved are Dr. Francis Butler and Xiao Wang.
